my friend found this website extrememly useful, her son really dislikes loud noises so she purchased a pair of ear defenders for him. He can now happily play and is not startled anymore (she did have to use adult size industrial defenders) but these are really light so stay on his head!
I would recommend any parents who experience the same get a pair!
